Interlaced and progressive scanning
Interlaced
Scanning: Picture constructed from interlacing two pairs of
fields, each containing half the scan lines, as in today’s analog
TV’s. The purpose of interlacing is to minimize flicker inherent
in lower-bandwidth images.
Progressive
Scanning: Picture constructed from single frames containing
all the scan lines, progressing from top to bottom, as in today’s
PC monitors. Progressive scanning provides a simpler method of
constructing images but requires a faster scanning frequency and
a higher bandwidth.
